I read in a business book recently that starting a business is not for the faint-hearted. Before you’re actually doing it, any statements like this are generally taken with a pinch of salt. Now that I’ve done it, I can totally see how much of an understatement that really is.
I cannot begin to explain the incredible ups, the incredible downs, the self-doubts, the moments of sheer confidence. I guess one way of describing it is as follows:
Imagine you want some fitted cupboards. Well you could get a local company to quote you for some, then come round and build it. That is what employment is like. On the other hand, being in business is the equivalent of growing a set of trees, watering them, nurturing them and when fully grown, chopping them down to get the wood for your cupboards before using a handsaw to size them up for your rooms. Oh and you’d also dig up raw metals from the earth, melt them down, and then asking members of your family to help mould them to become cupboard handles.
The changes I’ve gone through both in my business, at home with my family and from a personal development standpoint has been huge.
When the next driver joins LRC, he will be given the driver number 56. Yes I have been through 55 drivers! The turnover of drivers in this business is huge and considered very normal.
At home, things are changing at an equally fast pace. Arav is almost 2 years old, yes you read that right. I can’t believe my little boy has grown so fast. I am constantly telling him to take it slower and stop growing so fast. He’s now running around, saying “papa”, “muma”, becoming naughtier by the day. He drinks water by himself now, climbs on the bed and our sofas, throws tantrums when he doesn’t get his own way and is inquisitive about everything from the computer mouse to soil.
He’s absolutely adorable. At the weekend’s historic, momentous Cricket World Cup final, where India were crowned world champions for the second time (first in 1983), Arav raised his hands and copying his Papa, yelled “Iiiddyyaa”. Magic!
