So quitting a well paid job just before your wife goes on maternity leave for our first child is crazy right? How about then going to Dubai for a week, missing my flight back and a few weeks later buying a new BMW 3-Series M Sport? Madness right?

Then I must be mad. Many people who know me will say I’m a gambler, but starting a new business just before our first baby still got me a lot of strange looks.

This is how Leading Route Ltd came into being. Registered at Companies House in April 2009, the idea was to start up my own Private Hire minicab firm. From this business, you wouldn’t expect my background to be in IT, Biscuits or Financial Services, but it is.

Having worked for IBM, United Biscuits and Barclays, I felt a change in direction was needed. I wanted to control my own destiny, not have it controlled by a corporate world I internally rebelled against, where simple ideas and concepts take an age to materialise.

Having recently started out in property investment too, I felt I should take charge and not leave my future to early rises, early tube commutes (which I rather enjoyed actually) and layers of management which I needed to wade through to get to the big bucks.

With relatively low capital requirements, a minicab firm seemed like a good place to start and gain some experience in setting up and building my own business. Names didn’t come easily, but after much searching and being dejected by that ‘perfect name’ having already had its .com taken, leadingroute.com was born.
